The really great part of coming into Chapter 3 of Colossians is that we're about done talking about the false teachers. At the beginning in Chapter 3, the Apostle commands us to "keep seeking the things above" and then to "set your mind on the things above". So now, rather than focusing on the antics of the false teachers, Scripture is giving us some details of how to properly live a genuine Christian life --- a life that will be beneficial to us, a testimony to those around us, and pleasing to God.
And "yes" --- I did say "commands us". Folks often talk about "The Ten Commandments" as if they are the "end all" of Christianity. Here's something to consider --- in the next 31 verses of Colossians (3:1-4:6), there are 17 imperative commands directed at all Christians --- that's you and I. Just because they were written nearly 2,000 years ago does not make them any less commands today. Remember, it is God's Word, inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative, and eternal.
